PHASE ONE
It is with great honor that the Omeid team
announces the successful initiation of the
Amin Institute.
AMIN INSTITUTE {Kabul, Afghanistan}
March.22.2009 Phase One was launched.
On this day we proudly opened our doors to ten
orphaned boys, ages 8-10 years old and an
excellent support staff that includes a program
manager, social worker, two teachers, live-in
caretakers and a security guard. Together, they
have warmed the halls of the Amin Institute and
filled its corridors with hope and promise.
Within the coming months, we plan to bring in
another ten boys where they will be incorporated
into the Omeid family. As from the start, our
approach has been one of great caution with close
attention to detail. We started with only ten boys,
because we thought it most important to create a
stable, healthy and welcoming environment, where
staff, children and volunteers could share a
structured environment of comfort and respect
with one another, and this takes time. It is very
important that we create a successful program
with meaningful results before we entrust a large
number of children to our institute.
While at the Amin Institute each child will be
given the stability and assurances that create a
healthy and promising environment, necessary to
early childhood development. Each child will be
monitored closely in his studies, physical fitness,
health, psychological and extracurricular activities,
so that we may address the specific, individual
needs of these very special children, to ensure
their success both at the institute and in life.
In a post war environment the transition from chaos
to hope and stability does not come overnight. We
hope to equip these children with the education,
confidence and life skills necessary to excel in
higher education and in life.
In our care these children will complete their
elementary education within the scope of our
two-year program. Once they have successfully
completed their primary education they graduate
to PHASE TWO.
PHASE ONE {AT A GLANCE}
>> Accelerated Primary Education (2 years)
>> Regular physical examinations, including medical,
dental, vision, and psychological (as needed)
>> In house social worker to evaluate children’s
needs on a case-by-case basis
>> Physical fitness program with daily sports exercises
and drills
>> Monthly field trips to cultural and historical landmarks.
>> Visits with other schools and recreational activities
with peers
>> Monthly family days
>> Seasonal celebrations of local cultural, religious
and social events
HOPE IN PROGRESS
The Amin Institute will serve as our premier
project and foundation of our future endeavors.
Seeing as how non-profit work is exponentially
difficult than ventures made for profit; progress is
slow and agonizing. For this reason we have
planned to begin small and humble, and hope that
our organization will in turn grow alongside our
capacity and experience in the field. We prefer to
begin modestly, giving our utmost attention to the
quality of care we provide rather than the quantity
of children we serve.
This project, unlike pre-existing orphanages that
solely provide housing and education at the most,
will provide housing, nutrition, education,
counseling services and health care for orphans
between the ages of 5-10 years old. Here the
children will have a place to call home along with
brothers and sisters, other orphans sharing the
same burdens and pains.
We will provide education equivalent to what is
K-5th grade in the United States. We plan to
provide this education at an accelerated rate of
3 years rather than 5 years. Since the classes will
be small in size and divided amonst several
teachers they will have unlimited access and one
on one time with instructors thus able to advance
at a faster rate. Ensuring each student is
advancing steadily there will be regular evaluations.
In addition to housing and education the children
will have access to regular medical treatments
and vaccinations as needed at our onsite clinic,
which we hope will have the capacity to serve the
greater community as well. We will see to it that
the children are well nourished with a healthy,
balanced diet; a scarce luxury otherwise
unattainable in this impoverished country.
The children will be given psychological evaluations
and treatments as needed. Keeping in mind that
the Department of Orphanages in Afghanistan
estimates show over one million Afghan children
suffer from posttraumatic stress syndrome. Making
it essential that we address their individual
psychological needs to the best of our ability.
Furthermore, The Amin Institute will have 3 live-in
widows. These widows will provide a sense of
securtiy, love, structure, discipline and family that
the children lack and require so desperately.
Moreover, this will be an opportunity for some of
the estimated 70,000 women widowed by war to
heal their own wounds and head a household
while earning an income to sustain themselves.
Finally, to ensure safety the Amin Institute will have
regular security around the clock to protect the
children and staff.

PHASE TWO
The Amin Institute will be the stepping stone of our
organization. Over the first 3 years of care we will
continue perfecting our strategies, quality of care
and plan for our future while closely accessing the
local needs of the children and community.
By the third year of operation we will use our findings
and experience from the Amin Institute to plan and
construct our second, much larger, co-educational,
institute designed to house up to 100 children
between the ages of 10-18 years old. The second
project will be based upon the same principles and
qualities as in the Amin Institute. In order to cater
to such a great number of kids, while keeping our
educational facilities open to the general public,
the school and will be seperate from the housing
units which will closely resemble dormitory style
living, with separate male and female quarters.
"Phase Two" like "Phase One" will continue to provide
the supervision and care of a live-in family as well
as access to counseling, and constant security on
the premises.
In conjunction with "Phase Two" we plan to offer
vocational training for older locals who may be past the
schooling age, but still have the desire to learn and
become self-sufficient. In addition we will coordinate
foreign student exchanges to travel, study, learn new
languages and experience life beyond the besieged
cities of their childhood.
PHASE TWO {AT A GLANCE}
>> Housing for up to 100 orphaned boys and girls
between the ages of 5-12
>> Separate dormitory style living quarters with
live-in family of caretakers
>> Primary and Secondary (K-12) education open
to the public
>> Round the clock security
>> Vocational programs open to public
>> Foreign student exchanges
>> Preparation for higher education and University
level education
>> Continued physical and psychological services
>> Continued social, eductional and historical
celebrations and events
